Salinas PD finds car believed to have bene involved in hit and run

Salinas police have located a vehicle, a maroon late 2000s Hyundai Sonata with front-end damage, believed to be involved in a hit-and-run that killed a 2-year-old on 7/26/24. The incident occurred at the intersection of East Alisal Street and Wood Street at 6:30 p.m. An adult male was also injured but his injuries are not life-threatening. The vehicle was found on Saturday morning.

SLO Police Searching for Hit and Run Suspect

San Luis Obispo police are searching for the driver of a white sedan involved in a hit-and-run on Tuesday 7/23/24 around noon near the cemetery on South Higuera, injuring two bicyclists. They are asking for public assistance in identifying the driver. Witnesses are urged to call 805-594-8052, referencing case number 24073046.

Tragic Accident on Highway 101 Near Laurel Drive

A tragic accident occurred on Highway 101 in Salinas, where Virginio Cortez, a 77-year-old man, was killed while changing a tire. The incident involved four vehicles and was reported at 1:07 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024. A 24-year-old driver, Jose Ramiro Sanchez Jr., veered off the road and struck Cortez and a woman standing nearby. The crash led to a series of collisions, resulting in Cortez's death and major injuries to the woman. Sanchez Jr. was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.
